Energy Star Appliances - They save!
Which is more important, saving money, or saving the environment? That’s a question you won’t have to answer when you buy ENERGY STAR® rated appliances. Like all ENERGY STAR products, appliances with that familiar star logo are proven to be more efficient with water and energy, and that means lower bills.

ENERGY STAR rated clothes washing machines in particular can save on both energy and water. When purchasing a washing machine, in addition to the ENERGY STAR logo, there are two important factors to watch for. One is to check for a machine with a high modified energy factor, or MEF. The MEF measures how energy efficient the washer is: the higher the number, the better. You also want a machine with a low water factor, WF. The WF measures how many gallons of water are used per cubic foot of capacity. When shopping for a refrigerator, you may want to consider buying a model with a top-mounted freezer which typically use 10-25% less energy than side-by-side or bottom-mounted freezers.

ENERGY STAR rated dishwashers use 41% less power on average than a standard machine. They also use
significantly less water. There are many other ENERGY STAR rated appliances with similar benefits, ranging from air conditioning units and water heaters to computers, TVs, DVD players and more. For more information on ENERGY STAR rated appliances, visit www.energystar.gov.
